Do You Have Ears to Hear?

"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." - Revelation 2:7

In a world filled with constant noise, one of the most challenging questions a believer can face is whether they truly have ears to hear what God is saying. This isn't about physical hearing but about spiritual receptivity to the "still small voice of the Lord."

The challenge runs deeper than most people realize. "It's the still small voice of the Lord... it's the whisper. What's he competing for in your life? Can you even hear a still small whisper? Or are you so deafened by the noise you're listening to that you can't hear anything?"

Many believers genuinely desire to hear from God, but their spiritual ears have been dulled by the constant bombardment of voices demanding attention. Social media notifications, entertainment, news cycles, and even religious noise can create such a cacophony that the gentle whisper of the Holy Spirit becomes inaudible.

"If you want your ears to hear, there's some things you're gonna have to stop listening to." This isn't about legalistic isolation but about intentional spiritual hygiene. Just as physical ears can be damaged by excessive noise, spiritual ears can be desensitized by overexposure to voices that compete with God's voice.

The warning is sobering: "Do you even want to hear from the Lord? If you truly want to hear from the Lord, that means you have to be willing to hear what he says. And what he has to say may not be what you want to hear."

True spiritual hearing requires more than passive listening - it demands active preparation. It means creating space for silence, turning off the competing voices, and positioning the heart to receive whatever God wants to communicate, even when his words challenge, convict, or call for uncomfortable change.

The question remains: In the midst of life's noise, do you have ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to you today?

Reflection Question: What voices or distractions in your life might be preventing you from hearing God's still small voice clearly?

Prayer: Lord, create in me ears that truly hear Your voice above all the noise of this world. Help me silence the competing voices so I can receive whatever You want to say to me, even when it's uncomfortable. Speak to my heart today. Amen.
